Math corrections must be done by the end of the morning tomorrow.

There is a general assembly at 9:45 and at this time there will be the draws for the gingerbread houses.

Kevin is bringing chinese dumplings for the grade 6's to have with their lunch tomorrow. You still must bring lunch as there will only be 2 dumplings for each student.

Tomorrow is early dismissal. The students will be leaving school at 2:20.

Science - 2 hypotheses for the first day back on January 4th - that Science class. Don't forget.

Re-gift exchange will be tomorrow so that we can include Kennedy in the fun since she will not be able to be here on Thursday.

Math - all corrections in assignments and purple and white hand out sheets on decimals. Divisibility, Factors and Multiples pages must be done for Monday.
Estimating/Rounding decimals - the back of the white "decimals" sheet is to be done for Monday.

Bring your gift for our re-gift exchange by Wednesday, at the latest.
Gingerbread House tickets available until the end of the Christmas Concert on Wednesday afternoon.

Keep Science and Social assignments caught up.

Please let teachers know well ahead of time if you are going to be away so that tests and assignments are not left until we return in January. Think n' Ink books must be used and handed in to the homeroom teacher as soon as you arrive at school.

We had an wonderful lunch today provided by the SCC. Thank you very much to those parents who did all of that work. We enjoyed the meal and the comraderie at the hall.

We also had a really fun Christmas spirit day - dressing in all our Christmas paraphernalia. (Look it up).

Practice your lines for your play grade 6. Tell your grade 3 buddies to practice their lines, too.

Tomorrow is Friday! Only 10 more sleeps until Christmas.

Day 2 - Wednesday, December 14, 2011

SCC Christmas Dinner tomorrow and also Christmas Spirit Day. So come to school wearing your Christmas clothes, pyjamas or decorations and bring your appetite.

Math assignment that is due for tomorrow is page 91 questions #4, #7 (step by step 1), #8 and #10. You should have the first three pages of your Divisibility, Factors and Multiples worksheets finished. The whole booklet is due on Monday, December 19th.

Science page 82 List of Electricity uses due tomorrow for Science class.

Social - notes and work (Madison) can be caught up tomorrow or Friday Mrs. David said.

French Test on setting the table is on Friday, December 16th.

Gingerbread House tickets are still available.

The Math tests were quite well done. Some students earned some very good marks. We started Unit 3 on Decimals today. Practice in using and understanding the place value of decimals and reading them as a fraction up to the millionths will be required and necessary to do well in this unit. Also, practice multiplying and dividing with decimals.

In Social - finish your timeline of evcents on the pink paper for Wednesday, the 14th.

Science Test tomorrow. Study!

Bring money for Kindergarten gingerbread house tickets. 3 for $0.25 or 12 for $1.00.

The SCC Christmas dinner is on Thursday, December 15th. A "pink" note went home about it.

Health - 2 food labels for Tuesday's class. The labels must include the ingredients as well as the nutrition information. You need a label from "junk" food and one from "healthy" food.

Math - make sure corrections are up to date and that you have finished questions #1 and 2 in Comparing and Ordering Integers - p. 80 for Monday.

Math Test on Wednesday on Unit 2.

Welcome to December!

Health - Dietary Definitions need to be done for Tuesday's Health class. Also, for Tuesday's class bring a food label for "junk" food and one for "healthy" food with the ingredients and nutrition parts intact.

Math - make sure that Exploring Integers corrections are done for tomorrow, along with questions 4, 5 and 9 (step by step8), plus the Integer Q and the Reflect notes for tomorrow's class. We have one more concept to cover on Friday and Monday and then, Tuesday is review and questions on the unit to prepare for the Unit 2 Math Test on Wednesday, December 7th.

Science Unit exam is on Monday, December 12th. Start preparing now.

We will be welcoming a new student to grade 6 on Monday. Her name is Taylor.

It is November, the students are expected to go outside at the breaks, but they need to be dressed for the much cooler temps even though the sun is shining. Please remember to come prepared to be outside.

I apologize for the delay in this post. The internet was not working at school after 3:30 on Friday.

However, there is no school for students on Monday and Tuesday, October 24 & 25, as the staff is at a Professional Development in North Battleford. We are learning about all of the many new curricula that Sask Learning has developed.

Wednesday will be Day 5.

Math homework would include question 9 (Step by Step 1), #10, 11, 12, 13 and q's 14 and 15 were written as notes.

Remembrance Day posters must be finished and handed in to me no later than Thursday, October 27th.

The entire school body will be having a photograph taken on Thursday. Grade 6's are asked to wear black tops and pants.

There is a French test on the Days of the Week, Months of the Year (including correct spelling of them) on Friday, October 28th.

For Halloween on Monday, October 31st - students will once again be allowed to dress in their costumes starting at noon (after lunch is eaten). Students not wishing to wear a costume are encouraged to wear orange and black instead.

It is really important for the students to be dressing for the weather. They were outside today and found it rather chilly for how they were dressed. It's not summer any longer.

Education Week is next week as well as Bus Driver Appreciation. There are activities planned.

Welcome after a wonderful - weather long weekend.

End of Unit 1 Math Test is scheduled for Monday, October 17th. The next few classes will be spent making sure the students understand the concepts they will need to know. The marks for the mid-unit test should be in your Think n' Ink.

The newsletter went out today. Watch for important dates and upcoming events. October is a busy month with Bus Driver Appreciation week and Education Week next week, followed by a two day PD for staff. Then Halloween to round out the month. Soome students are working on Remembrance Day poems and posters and National Bus Safety contest posters.

Interim Report Cards are due back at the end of this week.

We had a very successful Terry Fox walk with about 35 to 40 seniors and other guests joining the students and staff on their walk. Then, the seniors and other guests enjoyed beverages and cookies and hopefully had a chance to view the school. There is some great artwork adorning our bulletin boards and walls. Come and visit us any time.

CAT-4 testing in Math and Language Arts continues.

School Photo packages must be returned to the school no later than October 4th. Please return the envelopes with the proof photos attached even if you are not ordering.

Social - Island contour is due on Friday.

Book Orders for October are due back on October 4th.

The UPS grade 4,5,6 soccer team will be playing the St. Peter's school team on Friday afternoon at 2:10. Then, the team will go to Cut Knife for their tournament on Tuesday, October 4th. They will be gone most of the day. You are welcome to come and cheer them on either day.

Terry Fox Canada-wide School Walk is tomorrow - all seniors are invited to join us. Students will have a brief presentation in the gym at 12:45 and the walk will commence by 1:00. Seniors are welcome to stay and enjoy cookies and beverages afterwards.
Some grade 6's are golfing with some Seniors. You know who you are and what you need to do (or see Mr. English).

Library books must be back to the Library by this Thursday. The library closes for inventory after June 9th.

The students will be visiting the RCMP and horses (for the Musical Ride) tomorrow morning.
Then, the SCC is hosting a BBQ burger and milk lunch for all students and staff. Students who do not wish to have a burger or milk must bring their own lunch.

Students must come prepared for being outside in the morning for an hour or more - jackets, insect repellent, hats, good sturdy footwear, etc.

Track and Field was a success on Friday.

The final book orders of this school year have been sent home today. They are due back on Thursday, June 2nd.

At this point, I do not know if the class trip on Friday will go ahead. I hope to have a firm answer by Wednesday. Please continue to check this blog for information in that regard.

Homework - Science and Social assignments of all sorts are past due by a number of students. Mrs. David has a list. If it is you, you need to get these things done and handed in if you expect to go on any class excursions of any kind.

Math - we started a new/final unit in Math today. Data Analysis and Management and Probability. Students needed to complete the step by step 1 (question #7) and question #8. The focus is writing good/fair/unbiased questions for a survey. Page 251.

Due to sanctions being imposed by the STF there will be no school on Wednesday or Thursday, May 25 & 26, therefore the Math test scheduled for Wednesday is now on Tuesday, May 24th. Students have reviewed, written down what they need to know for the test and have Show What You Know Questions to practice in this Unit - Fractions, Ratios and Percent.
Students were asked to put their duotangs and their text books into their bookbags.

Students have Science and Social assignments due for next week either Tuesday or Friday. Science review numbers 1 to 10 is due for Friday, May 27th, regardless of Track & Field.

Track and Field will go ahead on Friday, May 27th, weather permitting.

Day 5 - Monday, May 16, 2011

The Math assignment is as follows: Strategy Toolkit - p. 185 Practice #1 and #2. For question 2 you should have two different designs that each total exactly $10.00 - you will need to complete this at school in order to use the polygon pieces.
Then, the Exploring Percent - definition of percent needs to be written down. Then, complete Practice questions #1, 2, and 3 - ready carefully, all parts. Then, do questions 6 and 7 using your hundredths grid squares (one only for each question). Also complete #8, 9, 10, 12 & 12 is the Step by Step #7. I will be giving about 20 minutes of tomorrow's class for students to finish up this work, but it must mostly be done by tomorrow, and, must be finished by 11:05 a.m. on Tuesday. Also, make sure corrections on previous assignments are done.

Science - due for Wednesday - film cannister write up. Past due - airplane technical report - 1 page and finish question #4 on page 207.

Track and Field forms are due on Wednesday - no lates.

Health Test on Thursday. Judging by the writing assignments handed in, some students need to put in a greater effort in Health.

A "blue" note and permission about the upcoming Grade 6 Class Trip is coming home along with this week's newletter. The "blue" permission must be back no later than Thursday of this week.
Students' behavior and keeping up with homework will be considered in whether or not they go on this class trip since it is funded by SCC.

Book Orders for May have been handed out to the students. These book orders are due on Friday, May 6th.

Math - students wrote a fractions, decimals, percent Pre-test. The concept we start with is mixed numbers (a whole number and a fraction - 31/2) and changing them to improper fractions (the numerator is larger than the denominator - 7/4).

There is no school on Thursday. Read the important "bright yellow" letter that has been sent home today. School will resume on Friday, May 6th.

The last Math assignment of the Geometry unit - pages 237-238 - Volume - cubic units. #1, 2, 3, 5, 6 (Step by Step), 7 and the Reflect was given as notes, but you need to include a diagram that shows you understand the notes. Math Test is on Wednesday! Science - page 179 Communicate. Terms: aerodynamics, air pressure and angle of atack. French - fish colored for Wednesday, april 20th. Student-led Conferences begin tomorrow. Please be on time, or even a little early. School Tees forms and money are due on Wednesday, as well. Be sure sizes, colors, names, etc. are clearly indicated on the form. It's trying to be spring. Get some fresh air before tackling homework and studying.

Junior Genius haas wound up for another year. It was successful, by all who viewed it. Math on Perimeter is due for Friday. Test on the Geometry unit is on Wednesday, April 20th. Junior Genius Day is tomorrow. The grade 6's have been excitedly working to finalize the details. The gym has been off-limits to all others all day. We are anxious to see the results of their very hard work, tomorrow. The public is welcome to view the displays and ask the students questions from 9:30 until 2:30 tomorrow. Math that is unfinished from today's lesson is due for Friday. The assignment was the definition for perimeter and the various formulae for perimeters. Then, page 226 - 227 #1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8(step by step), 9 and the Reflect need to be done - showing the work (process) as well as the answers using the appropriate units of measure. SchoolTees forms and money are due on Wednesday, April 20th. Student-led conferences are Tuesday through Thursday of next week. Math Unit test on Geometry is on April 20th, as well.

Junior Genius Day is drawing closer. I am looking forward to seeing all of the displays. Math Test on Geometry for grade 6 on Wednesday, April 20th. The Math assignment from yesterday is due tomorrow if you did not get it finished during today's class. Pink Day tomorrow - wear as much pink as you can. Also Pizza lunch is tomorrow - if you ordered pizza a couple of weeks ago. School Tees orders are coming in - they are due by April 20th.

Day 5 - Monday, April 11, 2011

This is Music Festival week. Good luck to all of the students participating in the various disciplines. Dancers are busy as well, and we wish them well in their competitions. Pink Day is on Wednesday. We will be wearing pink to show that we do not tolerate bullying in our schools. Some School Tees forms and money are starting to come in. Again, these are due on April 20th if we wish to order grade 6 UPS "gradwear". A Math Test on Geometry will be on Wednesday, April 20th. We do not want to have to leave writing this until after the Easter break, so please make sure that you are here for it, or make arrangements to write it after school or prior to being away. Student-led Conference are scheduled for next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Times have been sent home so that parents know when to attend. I was able to accommodate all requests. I will have Mrs. Roth put the schedule in the newsletter next Monday, as well. The Math assignment from today is due on Wednesday. This would be pages 222-223 #1, 2, 4 (step by step 5) 7 and the Reflect. What a lovely spring day it is.

Friday, April 8, 2011 - Day 4

Library on Monday. This is the last Library class until the Library renovations are completed. Please make sure your books are back so that you can renew or take new ones. You'll need them until after the Easter break, for sure. Math - the assignment is on pages 216 to 218 - make sure the 5 definitions for polygons are done, then do the Practice questions - #1, 2, 3, 4 (Step by Step), 5, 6, 8, & 9. The Reflect was done as notes and copies of the notes were made for those students who were absent. Due for Monday. Junior Genius is coming up next week. Music Festival for school performances are Tuesday morning. Pink Day is on Wednesday. Student-led Conference dates and times were sent home today. Please make sure your parents know. Math - please make sure the Math assignment from Wednesday is done, along with the Step by Step 3 from today. Also, the 5 polygon definitions from pages 215 & 216 along with sketching an example. Pink Day is Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Wear something pink to show that we won't tolerate bullying any time any where any way. Sometimes, like yesterday, the internet runs slow here at school. Please check this blog a couple of times after school before deciding that there is no post. Occasionally I have to post from home and that means it does not get posted until after supper. But, I cannot do anything about internet problems other than these things. Enjoy spring! Make sure you have proper outer wear for recesses.

Day 2 - Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Grade 6 students - girls and boys - worked separately this morning as the Adolescent classes with Mrs. Parkinson took place. Work hard to make sure Junior Genius is ready to go - only a few days left. Math - the girls will have the assignment done. The boys will have time tomorrow to work on it, but certainly could start it if they have time tonight. The Practice questions #3, 6, 7, 8 & 9 were assigned. Mrs. David's balloon challenge is due for Science class tomorrow. Check textbook page 169 for instructions. The SLC times and "homework for parents" was due today. I really need to have it to complete the timetabling of the Conferences. So, if you have not returned your forms by tomorrow, I will have to schedule in the other conferences and send out that information. Craft Club forms and $2.00 is due tomorrow. Craft Club be on Tuesday, April 12th. School Tees forms and money are due back by April 20th. A Math Test is being scheduled for April 20th or 21st on the Geometry Unit. A firm date will be decided next week. Sincere sympathy is extended to Ms. Poppleton on the sudden passing of her father. Enjoy the spring weather.

Day 1 - Tuesday, April 5, 2011

Welcome back after a "lovely weather" long weekend for the students. The school is busy with students involved in dance, music festival and junior genius. It is hard to keep track of all that is going on. It is much appreciated when parents can let staff know that students are going to be absent ahead of time so that work can be planned for and done ahead of time. Today, in Math we covered the introduction to the lesson on drawing triangles with specific angles and measurements. Look for "Mathletics" information coming home along with the weekly newsletter. Keeping track of things "due" in the Day Planner is more important now than ever as the expectations are increasing. Craft Club forms are due on Thursday, April 7th. School Tees Grade 6 clothing order forms went home today. If you wish to order something the deadline for orders (cheques or credit cards) is Wednesday, April 20th. This will enable us to get the order sent away and receive the clothing items back in mid to late May. Samples of the clothing are here in the classroom and you can also obtain helpful information on the SchoolTees website. Also, talk to students who are now in grade 7 or 8 will also have helpful information about sizing. Balloon Challenge for Science - best flight path and distance - have it ready for Thursday.

There are still some report cards out that really need to come back, please. Other than that, there is no actual homework, but students who have unfinished work in French, Social, and Math must get it caught up right away and definitely for Tuesday, April 5th. Responsibilities - you need to borrow someone else's book if you do not have all of these notes. These notes must be caught up before next Health class on Wednesday, April 6th. Pizza lunch forms and money as well as Book Orders are due on Friday, April 1st. Report Cards still need to come back. Be sure to sign in the Term 2 space. The curling bonspiel was short as the roads were too icy to bring in all the invited teams. Students curled from 10 until noon.

Also, due to roads, the basketball tournament is postponed until next Thursday, March 31st. All the rest of the details remain the same as they would have been for tomorrow. Just the change of date.
The Math from Tuesday's blog is still to be done for tomorrow. Math test is still to be written on Friday from 10:45 to noon. Come prepared tomorrow to ask questions of the angles unit which still give you difficulty.

Report Cards go home tomorrow.

The Student-led conference date will be in mid-April. The choice of dates and times will be coming soon.

For tomorrow the questions are p. 153 #8, 9 and Reflect. Also, do the Show What You Know questions and especially (to be handed in on Thursday morning if you are going to basketball) #6,7,8,9, and 10.

Day 3 - Monday, March 21, 2011

It is officially "Spring".

The sixes have a Math assignment which has to be completed for Tuesday. Make sure you understand and can use the rule about the sum of the angles in a quadrilateral always equals 360 degrees and how to find that using the "triangle rule". Complete page 151 an 152 questions #1, 2, 3, and 4 (step by step).

Music Note Name Review is on the list.

As well, the sixes will be finished this unit on angles and will be having a unit end test on Friday, March 25th. Any students knowing they will be absent for this test will be asked to write it on Thursday, the 24th, rather than leaving it until the 28th and missing the introduction to the next unit that day.

A Newsletter went out today.

Selected students will be participating in the Division Curling bonspiel here in Unity on Wednesday, March 23rd.
Selected girls will be participating in a Division Basketball tournament on Thursday. Any missed school for these students will have to make up the missed work on time. Extra class time will not be given.

Math - make sure that yesterday's assignment is firmly in your head as to how it works before going on to the more challenging questions from today - #7 (S by S6) #8 and #9. The principle is the same - the sum of the interior angles of a triangle equal 180 degrees. But also remember about complementary and supplementary angles - check your "notes".

A Math assignment was given today and is due for Friday. Students will have some time to work on it in class tomorrow, but not enough to get all of it done unless some of it is done for homework. So, Angles lesson beginning on page 134 - you should have questions 1, 2 (all parts as the example on the board showed), then question 5 and the purple page Step by Step should be done for Thursday. The rest of the assignment is question 6, the coral page Step by Step and number 9. Be neat and complete.

Day 2 - Thursday, January 27, 2011

Work Done today: Junior Genius work - keep on top of the timeline to get finished in time for the open house date.

Math was a decimal and problem solving assessment tasks. It needs to be done at school.

French - 3 sentences about what Mario, Lana and Guylaine are wearing. Hand in to Miss Riddell.

Art - Ted Harrison Art needs to be completed to the end of the pencil sketching of the lines in the good copy.

Computers - watched the 3rd scratch video on how to make a conversation. You will have to get caught up at noon with Miss Riddell.

Book Orders are due on February 2nd - no lates.

Literacy Coloring contest sheet is due for Monday. The Credit Union has prizes for each grade winner.

Read the Social Studies handout on Exploration and Change for next class.

No school tomorrow and Spirit Days all of next week - so it's Jersey Day on Monday.

From all accounts the muffin making project for next week's pj day was successful.

day 6 - Tuesday,m January 25, 2011

It's Family Literacy Week and tonight is the UPS Reading Night. It has been advertised around the school on posters and in the newsletter. It starts at 7:00 with guest readers from the Unity Credit Union and hot chocolate and home-made cookies provided by Credit Union staff. Please come and enjoy the luxury of being literate and share a few stories with your family.

Math - Skills Bank corrections on all previously assigned pages need to be worked on and completed by the end of January - Monday.

Mrs. David still needs some tests and assignments turned in. If this is you, you need to do it now.

Enjoy this lovely weather. It doesn't get much better than this for winter in Saskatchewan.

Day 5 - Monday, January 24, 2011

Math - Skills Bank - all corrections to the end of the completed pages - 159 to 173 and 176.
Math assignment - pages 97 & 98 - have done to the end of the Step by Step (question 10) for Tuesday's class. The remainder of the questions will be completed with your assigned partner on Tuesday.

Science - various students need to get various assignments to Mrs. David and page 94 question 2 and add tesla coil to timeline.

Social - several students need to hand in their "day on the life" and the "explorers".

Music - two students need to get their tests back to Mrs. May and bring your songs for analysis.

Stay on top of the assignments and don't put things off - do it today!

Skills Bank Math booklet pages to be done and corrections to be done. Current pages to be worked on are 171, 172, 173 and 176.

In Math we are beginning our unit on decimals (reading and working with decimals to the millionths - 6.000 021 = said as "twenty-one millionths") and later adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals and solving problems with decimals.
Question 4 on page 91 was to be done today.

Art Shattered Pictures were due today.

Social - Anasazi and Maya story is due on Wednesday.
Science - timeline, 8 to 9 points and question p. 88 questions 1 and 2 and the invention is due.

Craft Club money is due on Wednesday with craft club being on Monday, January 24th.

The UPS Reading Night is scheduled for Tuesday, January 25th - mark it on your calendar and come and enjoy LITERACY.

Dress for the weather - the sixes will be going outside for the remainder of the month.

Hope to see you at the Riders v. Unity players hockey game and Minor Hockey day in Unity at the arena tomorrow.

No homework or tests upcoming.
Make sure that long term assignments are worked on when you do not have any other more immediate work to do. Such as Junior Genius.

Craft Club forms and $2.00 due to Miss Riddell by January 19th. Craft Club is on January 24th.

All work and corrections must be finished in the current Math unit for Thursday morning at 8:55.

Math homework includes all corrections (old and new). Plus, page 80 Integers - questions 4 & 5. Three students have Skills Bank work to have finished for Monday.

Science is due for Monday. See yesterday's entry. Social reports are also due for Monday. Presentations start on Tuesday.

A few students still have Science test to get back to Mrs. David. Find them, get them signed and bring them back for Monday.

Book Orders went home today. They are due on Tuesday, January 11th.

Day 5 - Thursday, January 6, 2011

Math assignment for today was p 76 & 77 questions 4, 5, 6, 7, Step by Step 8 (q. 9), 10 a) and the Reflect as notes. It is to be completed for tomorrow and handed in by 8:45.

Science - Electricity unit - 40 electrical things from the pictures and do questions 2 & 3 on page 83 in the text.

Music Test tomorrow.

There are still a few Science tests which need to be signed by parents and returned to Mrs. David as soon as possible.

We like these three day weeks. It helps get everyone back into routine.

Day 4 - Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Welcome back.

We got right back to it today and started the morning with In Motion.
Math class introduced Integers to the grade 6's (positive and negative numbers). Make sure questions 1 and 3 are completed for tomorrow.

Health class finished up the section on Self Esteem. If you were absent, please make sure you borrow someone's book and get the notes.

Library is tomorrow so bring your books back to return or renew.

Grade 6 has a Music Test on Friday. Be prepared.

Social Studies Explorers reports need to get finished up.
Science Tests need to be signed and returned right away.

It's good to be back.
