Day 2 - Wednesday, September 29, 2010
Today we started the Canadian Achievement Tests (CAT-4) which are required by the government and our school division for grades 3 and 6 in an elementary school. The 6's did the longest component of the Math today. I was pleased and impressed with the perseverance exhibited by all of the students. Tomorrow we will do the Computations section. There are several Language Arts sections to be completed with Mr. English as well. The grade 3's are also doing these tests. If a student is absent during this testing it is required that it be made up, which will complicate the process of getting everything completed by Thanksgiving, so it is important that you are at school, well-fed and well-rested to be able to do your very best on these tests.
On the homework list is:
Math corrections, Art grid drawing, Science and Social. Some of these assignments are now past due and marks are being deducted by Mrs. David for late work.
Miss Riddell has posted notice of a French test for next Tuesday. Make sure you are prepared for that, too.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for the Fall Fair and Trade Show starting on Friday, October 1st. Some of our 6's have signed up to work on Friday after school. Do your job well.
Enjoy the warm days we are having.

Science class work (late) for some students. Get it done. Social Studies elevations is to be done for tomorrow's class.
Some students are starting to let their lazy habits kick in already and are starting to fall behind. The consequence to this will be staying in at recesses and noons and after school to get caught up. If this persists for more than a day or so, then special event privileges will be taken to work on the work to be caught up. Don't let it be you.

Welcome back. I hope you had an enjoyable long weekend.
Grade 6 started into their Math texts today - beginning to learn about patterns and relationships in tables of values (input/output tables). Try to look for patterns in numbers in every day life. Some students will have a bit of homework to do. The question assigned is Practice, page 8, number 1, parts (a) and (b). Follow all of the instructions. Part (a) was done together and was left on the board as an example.
There is a Music note about a Band Picture.
Don't forget about the Science for tomorrow.
Student Fees still need to be paid by several students.
Today the first book order forms were sent home. There are four this time, but after this month, I will usually only send the Arrow and the Teen Reading Club. Book Orders are due on Friday, Sept. 10th and unless I receive a phone call or a note of explanation from a parent, I will proceed with the order and not accept "late" orders.
All the immunization forms have come in, for which I thank you for the quick response.
Mrs. Parkinson will be here on Friday for a presentation to the Grade 6 class regarding the immunizations.
